The Refined Showroom of Atelier August

Giving shape to materials and spaces, Atelier August celebrates craftsmanship and bespoke creation. Based in Geneva, this multidisciplinary workshop designs timeless pieces of furniture and contemporary living spaces using mainly natural, sustainable materials such as wood. Last November, Atelier August has opened its new showroom in the heart of Quartier des Bains. Let’s take a tour.

The brainchild of interior architect Dunja Stanic and cabinetmaker David Pili, Atelier August encourages a responsible and mindful lifestyle through sleek, smartly designed interiors. Building on each other expertise, the duo manages the creation – or renovation – of residential spaces, from concept to completion. Together, they design objects and interiors that are as aesthetic as they are functional, all standing the test of trends and time. From DJ booths to bespoke desks and bookshelves, each piece of furniture is carefully thought through to dress and structure the living space. The artisanal work sublimates these elements, giving them that extra soul that is so desirable in today’s highly mechanised world. By maintaining a close dialogue between function and emotion, between design and craftsmanship, Atelier August highlights the sensory dimension of natural materials.

Focusing on the essential in order to minimise its impact, Atelier August adopts a sustainable and local approach, working with wood from existing stocks or responsibly managed forests, and using even offcuts. True to their values, Dunja Stanic and David Pili are constantly rethinking the way they manufacture the pieces of furniture, using glue- and screw-free techniques so that the wood can be reused as much as possible. Thus, they create bespoke pieces in an ethical manner to dress up contemporary interiors.

To turn a former carpentry into its showroom, Atelier August has expressed all its know-how. Echoing the minimalist aesthetic of its founders, enhanced by subtle warming details and clever twists, this new space is in constant evolution, allowing them to showcase their works in real-life settings, or host temporary exhibitions. Guests can appreciate the finesse of the craftsmanship, right down to the details of the sculpted door cuffs, as well as a selection of wooden objects produced in small series. They can also discover the many ways in which wood can be used to decorate contemporary living spaces. Ash, olive or even brushed fir are highlighted by a delicate, artisanal work that reveals the beauty of each wood species.
